Wow! What a difference a year makes. This winter has been a complete 180 from last year. The weather here in Ohio has been in the high 30's and 40's most of the month. It even got into the 50's twice. I took advantage of the weather and 90% of my training has been outdoors. The only downside to January was an illness I had for 6 days. It cost me a week of training, but I rallied the last 2 weeks to salvage the month. My long runs were 10 miles each week and I did a 13 miler the last weekend. One change I have made in 2012 is my Sunday runs. I do my long runs on Saturday and in the past would do a short recovery run on Sunday. This year, I have been doing a second long run of 8 miles at a hard pace. It is a group run with Ryan McCartney, Mason Goodman, Jessica and Kristy. This is a recovery run for them, but it is speed work for me as they are much faster. I've always been told, the best way to get faster it to run with faster people and that is what I am gonna do this year.
My focus in February is to continue to increase my speed and miles along with continuing to lose weight. I will also be adding swimming to my workouts *gasp* I have registered for an indoor triathlon on 2/26 and will use that as a spring board to some real triathlons later in the year. I will be doing long longs of 15 miles this month and a 18 miler towards the end of the month.
